Oswaldo’s Perfect Day

6:00 am – Wake up! The early bird catches the worm. And I know what you may be thinking. “I don’t want a worm”. Well, worms are high in protein and slurp like spaghetti. Plus, if they crawl back up, you have a second meal. Either way, waking up early enough lets you enjoy the beautiful colors of the moon and sun dancing together. I always have my bed situated in a way so that the sun can shine into my room to wake me up, which is much better than an alarm clock, and gives me a perfect view of the morning sun.

7:00 am – Be done getting ready. Has to happen, even on a perfect day. Get myself a cup of coffee to wake up my mind. Scroll through my socials and write down any big ideas I got during my shower for blog posts or tweets to go viral. Maybe watch a video or two.

8:00 am – Breakfast breakfast breakfast. By now, the worm you ate in the morning is probably long gone, so I’ll need to cook myself up something. Sweet breakfasts are a huge no, because then I want to go back to sleep, and I’ve already had my coffee. I would probably make myself some huevos rancheros and beans, with tortillas a mano.

9:00 am – By now breakfast should be done, but if it is done a little later that is also totally okay. Take life as it comes, I always say. They call me Oswaldo “takes it as it comes” Morales Solorzano. At this point I would love to get outside while I have the chance, and before the noon sun completely obliterates me. Maybe taking a hike in the mountains, a walk through a park, or sitting by a lake for a couple of hours. I don’t want to take a book or anything because I want to be outside to experience nature, not just be around it. In my perfect world, it is slightly overcast so the sun isn’t destroying me, and I can spend around three hours outside.

noon o clock – I would go back home at this point, and make myself a quick lunch. Contrary to the ritual of breakfast, lunch has little meaning to me so I just want something quick, albeit still perfect. If there is some ceviche or chicken salad in the fridge, I would probably eat that with some crackers. This will also let me snack on cherries and mandarins until dinner.

noon thirty – Reading time! I would have a perfect book for this perfect day, and right now (in the real world) I am reading a book on decolonization in the Maya forest, which I would definitely consider using in my perfect day. Other notable books include: Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Kimmerer, Seveneves by Neal Stephenson, and But What if We’re Wrong? by Chuck Klosterman. Take your pick.

3:00 pm – I would probably play some game for a couple of hours. I have been playing A Hat In Time which is an amazing indie platformer that you should get if you are into games like Super Mario Odyssey. If I wasn’t playing Hat, I would probably be playing Odyssey, because I’ve recently gotten into trying to speedrun it (finish the game really fast). I am considering streaming it because why the hell not, so in this perfect world I would be streaming and interacting with all of my fans.

6:00 pm – Social media break, you gotta have at least one a day or you’re not a true Zoomer.

7:00 pm – I know there are a million different types of food that are supremely better than pizza, but in this particular scenario I imagine myself wanting to watch a movie over dinner, and I don’t want to cut into movie time by having to make food, so that means pizza time. And it will definitely have pineapple on it because I am not afraid of having different flavor profiles in my meals. Watch anything funny because I have no preference, and I can’t watch my favorite movie, which is Lilo and Stitch 2: Stitch Has a Glitch, because I cry everytime I watch Lilo and Stitch 2: Stitch Has a Glitch. And I don’t want tears on my pizza.

Depending on when the sun sets, I would take a break to go watch the sun set, in the reprise of the dance shared by the sun and the moon as the day turns to night.

8:00 pm – In this scenario I also happen to have my own house, and yeah it’s not massive but it gets the job done. Like, there is at least a room to read books in and a living room (along with boring things like a bathroom and a rock to sleep on). Because of this, I would then invite my myriad of friends over for a nice bonfire and hangout session. We may play a board game, or if more than six people come (gasp) we may just all chill and talk. Also in this scenario, quarantine is over, because hanging out with people during quarantine is a bad idea (gentle PSA).

midnight o clock – I would hope that everyone would be gone by now because I am an old person who is getting less used to sleeping past midnight. I would grab my notebook from next to my bed and jot down anything that seems pertinent to jot down before the night ends.

midnight thirty – put my headphones on and have some time to just immerse myself in music, which is one of the most beautiful parts of any day. Listen to one of those songs that travel from one headphone to the other (you know the one) and feel myself being cocooned in chords and melodies. Bring myself to peace and clear my mind for the night.

1:00 am – Goodnight!

(gwen, ruby, and gaby asked to be included in my perfect day even though they are included in the group hangout so I will see them in my dreams. Don’t ask for more because I can control my dreams so you’d be out of there quick.)
